£4 million research grant for improved environment in the South West
The Water and Environment group is part of a new £4 million, 5-year research grant awarded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC).
The project is entitled ‘South West Partnership for Environment & Economic Prosperity (SWEEP)’ and it involves 12 investigators from the University of Exeter, Plymouth Marine Laboratory and University of Plymouth. SWEEP's principle objective is to enhance the economic prosperity and wellbeing of the South West. The project brings together a unique blend of academics, businesses and policymakers. The central aim is to place 'natural capital' – those elements of nature producing value for people - at the heart of regional decision-making and business processes in the South West. CWS will be addressing the flooding related issues in collaboration with Pell-Frischmann. SWEEP will develop bespoke tools, models and apps to predict and help mitigate the destructive impact of natural hazards on regional economic growth and wellbeing.
