Serious gaming in the water industry
Are we being serious about water?
Dr Mehdi Khoury, Senior Research Fellow, has been busy demonstrating the use of serious gaming in the water industry at a variety of events in late 2021.
Firstly, Mehdi attended the Water, Wastewater and Environmental Monitoring Conference (‘WWEM 2021’) from 12-13th October 2021. Here, he participated in a Net Zero Round Table, hosted by Oliver Grievson (Z-Tech Control Systems), where they discussed the question of how to achieve net zero emissions in wastewater.
You can re-watch the round table discussion via YouTube. An article, written by one of the round table experts Pernille Ingildsen (Hillerød Forsyning), is also available to read.
On 1st November 2021, Medhi travelled to Amsterdam for the Aquatech Innovation Forum where he hosted a serious gaming workshop. Conference attendees, including CEOs, researchers and engineers, participated in ”Aquatech Town” – a virtual community comprising 300,000 inhabitants – where players can help the town overcome water stress by implementing circular, energy-efficient solutions.
Find out more about Aquatech Town and watch a short video from the conference here. You can also have a go at playing Aquatech Town yourself.
Mehdi also presented the NextGen Serious Game at the Amsterdam International Water Week Conference (‘AIWW2021) in early November 2021, as well as giving a virtual presentation to OFWAT staff.
