Dr Kate Baker gains a place on the American Association for the Advancement of Science Community Engagement Fellow Program for 2019
Dr Kate Baker, Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Centre for Water Systems University of Exeter, was one of twenty-three professionals who gained a place on the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Community Engagement Fellow Program for 2019. This professional development and training opportunity is organised by AAAS’ recently established Center for Scientific Collaboration and Community Engagement and funded by a grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
The fellowship aims to improve collaboration and community building in science by providing a year-long professional development opportunity to individuals who cultivate member engagement and collaborative relationships within scientific associations, research collaborations and other communities of scientists. During the fellowship year there are three in-person trainings at AAAS headquarters in Washington, DC, monthly all-cohort webinars and project team work in small groups.
Lou Woodley, the Director of the Centre said “We’re thrilled to continue to support scientific community engagement professionals and through them a more diverse, collaborative, team-based vision of science.”
In 2019, as part of her Fellowship, Dr Kate Baker will be leading for the Centre for Water Systems in the community engagement aspects on two new European Union funded projects NextGen (Living Labs for Circular Economy in the Water Sector) and LOTUS (International Cooperation for LOw-cost innovative Technology for water quality monitoring and water resources management for Urban and rural water Systems in India), supervised by Dr Lydia Vamvakeridou-Lyroudia.
