Successful Chinese Visit for CWS Academics
In January 2017, Professors Dragan Savic and Guangtao Fu from the Centre for Water Systems attended the 9th International Perspective on Water Resources and the Environment conference in Wuhan, China.
The conference offered a platform for professionals to share knowledge, network, and gain perspective of water resource issue with particular reference to China.
Professor Fu discussed the latest research on water system resilience with Professor Daniel P Loucks from Cornell University and other colleagues. Together they explored potential research collaborations with the water resources group at Cornell.
While in China, Professor Fu also attended a workshop on academic writing and publishing at Tsinghua University, where he met four ASCE journals editors and discussed how to write high quality academic papers.
Professor Savic also spoke at the U.S. NSF Joint Workshop “Water Security under a Changing Environment – Comparing Challenges and Approaches in the United States and China”. As the only invited speaker who was not from China or USA, he spoke on “Hydroinformatics and Smart Water Systems”. There was also time to fit in a visit to the Three Gorges Dam - one of the largest civil engineering projects in the world.
