Christine Bicknell appointed Academic Fellow to the Inner Temple

Dr Christine Bicknell has been named as one of four new Academic Fellows at the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple, one of the four Inns of Court. The scheme recognises the academic and teaching excellence of its Fellows and is intended to strengthen links between barristers and legal academia. The Fellowship is a three year tenure during which Christine will support education and training activities at the Inn. The Inner Temple in turn are committed to supporting their Fellows’ research endeavours, including through financial support, library support and significant networking opportunities. Christine intends to capitalise on this particularly as she develops her research work on two key themes: standard of proof and the European Court of Human Rights; and security services’ accountability under Article 3 ECHR.

The Inner Temple is committed to social mobility and in 2018 was ranked 24^th in the Social Mobility Index. Recognising that we have some exceptional students who would never contemplate the Bar because they regard it as an inaccessible elite world, a drive to contribute to the Inn’s social mobility work was Christine’s core motivation for applying for her Fellowship.

The Academic Fellowship is a very great personal honour to Christine, and she is looking forward very much to working closely with the Inn.
