Stephen Skinner participates in seminar marking McCann judgment anniversary

On 24 September 2020 Stephen Skinner took part in an online seminar organised by the Human Rights Centre of Queen’s University Belfast to mark the 25th anniversary of the European Court of Human Rights judgment in the case of McCann and Others v. United Kingdom (1995).

Professor Skinner’s paper outlined the McCann judgment’s key contributions to case law on lethal force under Article 2 of the ECHR and its connections with the concept of democratic society.

The panel also included presentations by Professor Liz Wicks (University of Leicester) on wider developments in case law on the right to life since 1995, and by Daniel Holder (Committee on the Administration of Justice) on post-McCann developments in Northern Ireland.
