Stephen Skinner publishes article in Oxford Journal of Legal Studies on political crime and authoritarian law

Stephen Skinner's latest article, entitled 'Inciting Military Disaffection in Interwar Britain and Fascist Italy: Security, Crime and Authoritarian Law' is now available in the OJLS online and will appear in print in 2022. The article focuses on the comparative history of similar inchoate offences against military loyalty and obedience that were introduced in Britain and Fascist Italy during the 1930s. It argues that this historical analysis reveals intersections in these systems’ uses of criminal law and provides insights into the forms and extent of authoritarian tendencies and techniques in states’ legal practices, specifically in the security context and more generally within criminal law as a vector of state power across the political spectrum.
