Enabling Smart Decisions: Enhancing Natural Capital talk at the Environmental Economics conference

Members of the Land, Environment, Economics and Policy Institute (LEEP) at the University of Exeter, will give an overview of the aims and activities of the institute on Friday 18 March 2016, at envecon 2016, the Applied Environmental Economics Conference held at the Royal Society, London.

The Land, Environment, Economics and Policy Institute specialises in bringing cutting edge academic research and tools to inform management and policy-making with respect to land and the environment.

  • Professor Ian Bateman, OBE will open the plenary session with an overview of LEEP’s aims and its activities around resilient environments, sustainable economies and human wellbeing.
  • Professor Matt Lobley will talk about LEEP’s research to inform policy and business in the areas of agriculture and land management, with examples on intergenerational succession planning with farmers and the NFU mutual and an outline of the Sustainable Intensification Research Platform.
  • Professor Brett Day will review LEEP’s research portfolio in environmental economics for policy design and support, including incentive mechanisms for natural capital management and work with government and the water companies.
  • Dr Amy Binner, will give an overview of LEEP’s international research and integrated approaches, how economics can be used to save endangered species, and save lives in volcanic areas.

Professor Michael Winter, OBE will chair the session.
