Professor Nick Gill presented at the “Turning the ‘Asylum Lottery’"
Following the launch of the edited book, Asylum Determination in Europe, Professor Nick Gill presented at the “Turning the ‘Asylum Lottery’ on its Head” workshop in Siegen (Germany). The workshop was organised by Stephanie Schneider and Laura Affolter (details on the workshop can be viewed here).
In the presentation, Prof. Gill discusses the inspirations for the book, the reasons behind its timing and the way it is set out, and the innovative contributions that ethnographic method can make to the problem of asylum determination. The presentation also explores a particular example of observations of appeal proceedings in the UK, focusing on issues surrounding judicial discretion in appeal hearings.
