University of Exeter's Olly Deasy
Exeter into promotional playoffs
University of Exeter will feature in the end of term England Hockey League Premier Promotion Tournament next month after clinching the Men’s Conference West championship.
Exeter - skippered by Exmouth's Olly Deasy - racked up their 11th MCW win on the spin with a 3-1 top of the table triumph at second placed TeamBath Buccaneers on Sunday 20th March.
University of Exeter are aiming to bounce back to the Men’s Premier Division after being relegated at the end of their first ever season in the country’s top 10 last term.
Buccs won the Conference West title at a canter last season but faltered in their promotion bid at the end of season play-offs.
Top scorer Tom Carson scored in the 21st and 50th minutes yesterday to sandwich Exeter’s second goal, converted in the 40th minute by South African international Ian Haley.
Shaun Matthews replied for Buccs in the 55th minute.
Somerset’s Carson is the division’s leading scorer with 19 goals, nine of them – including his second goal yesterday - following penalty corners.
