Exeter Tennis Centre hosts successful roadshow

Last week the Exeter Tennis Centre hosted the Flybe Devon and Cornwall girls tennis roadshow and the event was deemed a big success based on the attendance and enjoyment factor of all involved.

After an anticipated attendance of 40 players there ended up being 86 women and girls who took part, which constituted an amazing turn out. The players took part in many different programmes within tennis, cardio tennis, mini tennis and touch tennis.

The roadshow aims to encourage new girls into tennis as well as keeping current girls engaged in the sport, making sure there are increasing female numbers who enjoy playing and competing. It was the first girl’s only road show nationwide and following its success many more are likely to be held around the country.

Debbie Hale, LTA Talent and Performance Co-ordinator for Devon and Cornwall said “We were very grateful to all those who attended and the coaches who helped run the roadshow. The day was packed full of activities and everyone seemed to be having a good time.”

The road show is one example of the methods through which the LTA is attempting to achieve its aim to increase participation in all ages and abilities and make tennis affordable to all.

There are various other opportunities for both adults and juniors to get involved in tennis including coaching programmes, club nights, cardio tennis sessions and much more. For further information please visit the Exeter Tennis Centre’s webpage or contact them on 01392 723669, xtc@exeter.ac.uk.
