2011 Grecian Shield
Win a hospitality match day package at Exeter City FC
The University of Exeter will be hosting a six-a-side Just Play football festival, which is being linked with the annual Grecian Shield tournament run by the Athletic Union.
Just Play, an FA initiative in partnership with Mars, aims to engage new or retired male and female players in football whilst creating opportunities for current players to participate further. To this end the FA have partnered with BUCS to deliver events where people can turn up and Just Play in a fun and relaxed environment.
The Grecian Shield tournament is open to all University of Exeter students, costs £20 per team to enter and the winners will receive a VIP hospitality package to an Exeter City League 1 match. It will be held on the 3G rubber crumb and sand based pitches and there will also be additional Just Play activities on the day such as keepy-up and cross bar challenges. The tournament will start at 10:30am and will run until 4:30pm. If you would like to enter a team please contact the Athletic Union or Sports Park reception.
Cai Robbins, BUCS Football Development Coordinator said: "This festival promises to be quite an occasion. It has been planned by the Athletic Union who has worked in collaboration with the University’s Sports Development unit to organise this event. I have absolute faith this festival will be a huge success and I suggest teams get signed up quickly – demand will be high!”
In addition to this tournament regular Just Play sessions will be commencing on 12th March and running Monday evenings on the MUGA pitch from 8-9pm. These sessions will be delivered by FA Level 1 coach Harry Drew and will cost only £1.50. Harry will deliver a few fun based coaching activities to warm up at the beginning of each session before starting a game of 5-a-side. These sessions are great if you want a cheap and informal game of football without the commitment of joining a team; all you have to do is turn up, pay and play.
