Sports Park hosts schools badminton comp
On Thursday 15 March the Sports Park hosted the final of the regional round of the Badminton England 2011-12 Center Parcs National Schools Badminton Championships.
More than 140 children from 24 schools across the South West (including schools from as far away as Truro and Cheltenham) gathered at the Sports Park to compete in the final round of the championships.
All were hoping for the chance to go forward to the National Finals at a Center Parcs location later in the Spring.
Dorset schools triumphed on the day with wins for boys and girls in both Key Stages three and four.
Results:
Key Stage 3 Boys – Poole Grammar School, Dorset
Key Stage 3 Girls – Bournemouth School for Girls, Dorset
Key Stage 4 Boys – Bournemouth School for Boys, Dorset
Key Stage 4 Girls – Talbot Heath School, Dorset
Helen Ward, University of Exeter Director of Badminton and referee for the tournament said: “The tournament was a huge success culminating in one of the most competitive final rounds I have seen, primarily due to the improved standard of players this year, many of whom have been fortunate to have received training from Performance Centres throughout the South West.”
The University of Exeter Sports Park are proud to be supporting badminton in the South West and wish the winning schools the very best of luck in the national finals on 21 and 22 April.
