The University of Exeter finished 7th in the British Universities and Colleges Sport rankings for 2011 / 2012.

Welcome to University of Exeter Sport

We would like to welcome all our new and returning students this academic year.  We wish you all every success in your studies and hope you enjoy everything the University of Exeter has to offer. 2012 has been an incredibly successful year for British sport and there are a number of ways for you to get involved at the University of Exeter; from competing for a sport team in the British Universities and Colleges Sport competition to simply having a kick around with friends in the MUGA.

We are currently undergoing an £8million development at the Sports Park to bring you the very best sporting facilities. The Outdoor Tennis Courts have already been covered to provide an additional 6 indoor courts, a new 3G Rubber-Crumb MUGA has been installed and the Water Hockey Pitch has been resurfaced.

An outdoor changing block with a viewing gallery over the Water Hockey pitch will also be completed this term. The fantastic new building housing the 200 station gym, spinning studio, classes studio, changing rooms and new Sports Park reception will be completed in the Summer of 2013.By September 2013 we will also have a new 200 station gym and new fitness studios to improve the workout our student gym members.

This year we are offering a huge range of fitness classes every day ranging from Zumba and Spinning to Pilates and RockSolid Circuits.  Although many of our facilities and classes can be casually booked by non-members, membership is the best way to enjoy all that we have to offer, and gives great discounts too. The gym can also be used by everyone with membership, you don’t have to be a sports student, a performance athlete or a member of a sports club to use the facilities. We have three different membership packages, standard, gold and platinum so you can pick what’s best for you. You can even beat the fresher’s week queues and by signing up online and start enjoying all we have to offer.

The Athletic Union is another fantastic way to experience sport at the University. The AU is at the heart of student life and contains 49 student run sports clubs which are open for you to try experience and enjoy.  Throughout fresher’s week there will be taster sessions for each of these clubs, it doesn’t matter if you never played before, all abilities are welcome to experience what the AU clubs have to offer.

If you want to get involved in competitive sport the University sports teams take part in a number of national and international events; in the 2011/2012 season the University of Exeter came 7th out of 161 in the BUCS competition, where university sides compete against each other for points. The Sport Volunteering Scheme provides opportunities to coach sport to children in local schools and earn money towards coaching courses. SVS is incredibly rewarding and designed to fit around your academic commitments. However, if you are looking for something more casual Intramural Sport offers a number of recreational leagues and one off events designed to appeal to all abilities.

The first few days of term are always filled with excitement and new experiences. If you have any questions about sport and fitness at the University please feel free to ask a member of staff or an AU representative. We look forward to seeing you and are always here to help.
