Be Healthy Day a huge success
On Wednesday 18 September students and staff were welcomed to take part in Be Healthy Day based at the Forum Project on Streatham campus. The day was a huge success offering a range of free services for the coming academic year.
Part of the University of Exeter’s ABC week, Be Healthy Day featured stands from a number of student support services and local businesses. The event aimed to give students and staff from the University the opportunity to learn about healthy living and gain free advice.
Richards’s bikes, Saddles and paddles, Exeter cycle hire and Devon CTC were just a few of the bike companies offering information as well as free services and running repairs to student bikes. Throughout the day students were also given the opportunity to try out a number of healthy activities including Nordic walking around campus, Yoga taster sessions up at the Sports Park and personal safety and self defence advice. The Sports office and Sustainability team also ran a smoothie bike throughout the day. The static bike gave passers by the opportunity to blend their own smoothies using pedal power.
There were also a number of student support services on hand to provide information including disability support team and the Devon and Cornwall Police service. Health and wellness coordinator Paul Mouland commented “The health and wellbeing of students at the University of Exeter is crucial and events like today show how committed we are to looking after all aspects of student physical, mental and emotional health. In the midst of Fresher’s week it’s fantastic to be able to give people the opportunity to come and get free advice in a relaxed environment. The day has been incredibly successful; it’s great to see so many people from all across campus getting involved and learning about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.”
In the coming term the University plans to carry out a number of Health events and classes aimed at keeping the student/ staff community feeling healthy and happy this year. For more information contact Paul Mouland on 01392722039 or mail p.d.mouland@ex.ac.uk.
