Honey Badgers snatch corporate trophy
Atass Honey Badgers have won season eight of the University of Exeter’s Indoor Six a-side cricket league. The victory came following an exciting finals night held on 26 October, which saw the four top teams compete in two semi-final events before a final decided who would be the season champions.
The first semi-final saw Francis Clark Spiros take on season newcomers Filor Solicitors. Despite an unfortunate second ball run out Filor battled on to score a respectable 68 all out with ten balls remaining. This, however, was not enough as the Spiros, led by star batsman Ian Strawbridge, showed their experience. The final result saw the Spiros take victory without losing a single wicket.
With the Spiros’ position secured the second semi-final saw Flybe play Atass Honey Badgers. Without their top batsman Ru Albertyn, Flybe battled through some impressive bowling to score 62 all out. Atass, meanwhile, continued the great form in bat that they had shown all season. Ian Sutton scored an impressive 26 (retired) to help his team ease into the final.
With two comprehensive victories in the semi-finals the final saw Francis Clark Spiros take on Atass Honey Badgers. The match was hard fought with both sides achieving high scores. The Honey Badgers opened with an impressive 84-5. This came despite a solid fielding performance from the Spiros with bowler Pallot conceding a mere seven runs in two overs. Despite their best efforts the Spiros were unable to match the Honey Badgers. Atass put in an impressive fielding display with Ian Sutton continuing his successful evening by taking two wickets.
