The University of Exeter Men's hockey team are currently second in the league.

University of Exeter Men's Hockey to face Guildford

University of Exeter host leaders Guildford in the England Hockey Men’s Conference West match of the day on Sunday (University Sports Park 12:30).

With four games remaining Guildford have a three-point advantage over second placed Exeter, who led three times at fourth placed Team Bath Buccaneers before Tom Griffiths 69th minute strike levelled the game 3-3.

Guildford warmed up for Sunday’s title test with a 5-3 home win over basement side Firebrands.

It could not be much closer on the run-in and Guildford will be wary of a resurgent Exeter side on a five-match unbeaten league run.

Exeter remain grounded after sharing the points with perennial West title rivals Bath, where Edward Matts, top scorer Andrew Ross and South African Olympian Ian Haley scored for the greens.

Matts fired Exeter into a 1-0 half time lead on 22 minutes, Ross took his season’s tally to eight league goals in the 46th minute by making it 2-1 after Welsh international Matt Ruxton had levelled.

Ben Carless converted a 49th minute penalty corner to make it 2-2 before Haley scored Exeter’s third goal from open play on 62 minutes.

Exeter won 2-0 at Guildford last October.

In the Women's Conference West third placed Isca University beat eighth placed Stourport 3-2 despite trailing 2-1 at half time.

Annabel Driver – from penalty corners in the 24th and 54th minutes - twice levelled for Isca before skipper and top scorer Claire Thomas secured victory in the 64th minute.

Third year student Thomas has now scored 16 goals in 14 league matches.

Isca remain a point behind second placed Trojans ahead of Saturday’s trip to fourth placed Gloucester City (1200).
