Children will enjoy football coaching and a fun swim session at St Luke's Sports Centre.

University teams up with Exeter City FC for a week of community sport.

St Luke’s Sports Centre will be opening its doors to young sports fans from across the city next week as part of its Easter sports programme.

The Centre, based on the University of Exeter’s St Luke’s Campus, is offering children aged five to twelve years a football and swimming based camp in association with Exeter City Football Club.

Budding participants will learn the fundamentals of football from St James’ Park’s esteemed community coaches and enjoy a fun swim at the hugely popular St Luke’s indoor pool.

St Luke’s Sports Centre Manager Bill Hart is looking forward to welcoming local children to the centre. He said: “We are hugely excited about this camp; we take great pride in our community programmes and wanted to offer something exciting and different this Easter.

This is the first time we have delivered a programme with Exeter City Football Club and are exceptionally pleased with the partnership. The club is at the heart of life in the city and has a superb coaching programme. By combining our expertise we are able to offer young people from across Exeter the best possible environment to stay active this Easter holiday.”

The Grecian’s Head of Community Jamie Vittles is very pleased with the blossoming “town and gown” partnership. He said “We are delighted to be strengthening our relationship with the University of Exeter by joining up with the Sports team at St Luke's.

We know from first-hand experience how popular their swimming sessions are with young learners from in and around Exeter and by teaming up to offer football and swimming, we hope we will really encourage local children to get active this Easter. What’s more with the weather being so unreliable all the sessions are taking place indoors, so parents can rest assured that rain won't stop play for their children."

The camp will be running from Monday – Friday, 14:00-16:00, offering one hour of football coaching and a one hour fun swim each day.
