Exeter performance player Louis Davey finished third in the National Masters finals and fifth in the National Regional Tour finals

Success for Exeter mini performance squad

Four of Exeter Tennis Centre’s Mini Orange performance players have ended a successful season on a high at the Grade One National Masters finals and Grade two National regional Tour finals this March.

Exeter Tennis Centre enjoyed a number of impressive performances throughout the winter season (September – February) including Grade Two National Tour wins for Emily Simms and Louis Davey, with Daniel Mountford also gaining a third place finish.

These results ensured that the three players finished in the top five of the national rankings for ages nine and under and gained qualification to the National Masters finals which saw the sixteen best young players from around the UK compete in a knockout competition at the National Tennis Centre, 16-17 March.

Louis capitalised at the event achieving an exceptional third position overall, Emily finished a respectable 10th whilst Daniel overcame illness on the day to finish 14th.

The National Regional Tour finals also took place on 23 March, where again Exeter had an exceptional showing. Having finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the regional rankings respectively Daniel Mountford, Louis Davey and Matthew Rutter all gained qualification.

Despite having to overcome the spring snow drift that swept across the nation, the players travelled to Loughborough to face the top 12 regional players in England. Having recovered from his illness Daniel bounced back to a brilliant 3rd, winning all the matches in his group. Louis also had a great competition finishing fifth, whilst finals debutant Matthew showed his capability finishing 10th overall.

Performance coach Charlotte Wallace was thrilled with the team’s performance, she said: “A huge congratulations has to be said to the players who have dealt with a tough season of training and competing this winter. The standard has been incredibly high this year and the squad deserve a well earned break before the start of the summer season, where we will be hoping to build on these excellent results.”
