Alumni golf events take place at leading UK courses.

Alumni Golf Invitational unites former students

Following last year’s successful inaugural Invitational Golf Day at St Georges Hill Golf Club, the second event was held in October 2013 at Huntercombe Golf Club near Henley. The event gives Exeter alumni the opportunity to invite friends and colleagues to enjoy a premier course and great hospitality.

The Invitational Golf Day, hosted by the Exeter University Alumni Golf Society, comprised of both a team and individual competition. The Huntercombe course provided a fantastic day’s golf and a challenge for players of all abilities; proving to be a friendly course but difficult to score well on with some very tricky greens.

Alumni and Sponsorship Officer Simon Tyson praised the events organisation, commenting: “It has been an excellent day of golf, with everyone thoroughly enjoying themselves. We are grateful to alumni John Gilbert (Economics, 1972) and Rod Alexander (History, 1971) who lead on the organisation of our alumni golf programme. To see so many alumni turning out today is testament to their hard work.

“We have a thriving alumni community at the University of Exeter. Events like this are extremely important to what we do; not only do they help us to keep in touch with our former students, but they also gives old friends a chance to get together and be reminded of the times they shared during their studies.”

This year the attendees were also able to toast the achievements of the University’s Student Golf Club who topped the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) rankings in 2012/13, following victories in both the Southern Premier League and the National Team Championships.
