Wallace receives second Fed Cup call up

Charlotte was first called up to join Judy Murray’s coaching team in April 2013, when the squad travelled to Argentina for the qualification playoff. At the time she was chosen as just one of four female coaches from across the UK nominated to shadow the side and gain experience, and has received a second call-up to gain further experience.

Charlotte explained how despite this being her second secondment to the British side, she still has much to learn about the GB set-up. She said: “Last year was a brilliant learning experience for me, and I expect this year to be no different. I am hoping to be able to spend even more time with Judy this year and particularly focus on player preparation.

“At the highest level there is so much preparation that goes into every match, both in the run up to the tour and during the event itself. I am hoping to gain a better understanding of how the side supports and integrates each player throughout this process.

Last year the team missed out on qualification after losing out to an on-form Argentinean squad, and face the loss of UK number one Laura Robson to a wrist injury this time round. Jocelyn Rae will now complete the team which features Heather Watson, Johanna Konta and Tara Moore as they face Hungary, Romania and Latvia in the group stages.

Charlotte said: “It is a shame that Laura will be unable to join us this year and I wish her a speedy recovery, but this gives Jocelyn a great opportunity to compete. Even without LauraI think the side has a really good chance of success and I am looking forward to being part of it.”

Graduating from the University of Exeter in 2006 with a Masters in Law, Charlotte was the institution’s first ever tennis scholar, who herself has played at a top national and international level, competing at Wimbledon as a junior and holding top twenty position for British Women.

Exeter Tennis Centre provides coaching for players of all ages and abilities throughout Exeter and beyond. Within this setup Charlotte manages the Centre’s acclaimed Mini and Junior Performance programme that has several UK top 10 players on its books.
