Jess Elkington and Hannah Traylen
Exeter Students in European University Rowing Championships
2015 is the 9th European Universities Rowing Championships, with 600 participants expected from 18 countries and 21 titles in different boat classes, taking place from September 9-12, 2015.
The pair qualified for the regatta by winning gold at BUCS in the same event back in May. The regatta is an opportunity to compete with the best university crews across Europe as part of the GB Universities Rowing team. They will be racing in the lightweight double that was recently purchased from the alumni fund.
Both Jess Elkington and Hannah Traylen were part of the quad that won gold in the lightweight quad at the same event in Poznan in 2013, Jess also represented GB at the U23 World Championships in 2014. Together with Rowing director and coach Richard Tinkler and assistant coach Lorna Tinkler, the duo have had a successful season in the double, with a win at the Metropolitan regatta in May followed a good performance against strong competition at Women’s Henley. Jess is a sports Scholar and Hannah is funded by alumna Tish Page.
Training in Exeter resumed mid August in preparation for the event. Hannah said that “It feels good to be back training in the double, we’re both very much looking forward to some high quality racing and representing the University of Exeter on the international stage”.
“We’ve benefitted from an excellent training programme from the strength and conditioning coaches alongside our coaching and training, as well as support from the University and alumni”.
Good luck to Jess and Hannah, you can follow their progress at www.euc-rowing2015.eu.
