Exeter Tennis achieves Matrix standard for Coach Education

The Centre is part of the impressive Sports Park on the University of Exeter Streatham campus offering a range of coach education courses throughout the year.

In September 2013 the centre became only one of six Lawn Tennis Association Coach Education Centre’s and has now been award with the Matrix Standard.

The Matrix standard is the international quality standard for organisations that deliver information, advice and/or guidance, either as their sole purpose or as part of their service offering. The award will ensure that the Tennis Office offers best practice with benchmarking to ensure continuous excellence. The assessment looks at four key areas; Leadership and Management, Resources, Service Delivery and Continuous Quality Improvement.

Exeter Tennis Centre has achieved the standard through the hard work and dedication of the staff and the quality of service offered which provides the best possible opportunity for aspiring coaches.

“This is a great achievement for Exeter Tennis Centre and is another step on the pathway to becoming a prominent Coach Education Centre. We train many people to become coaches throughout the year as well as up-skilling existing coaches. Without qualified and motivated coaches many children would not get the opportunity to play tennis as they currently do.” Charlotte Wallace, Tennis Programme Manager for Exeter Tennis Centre.

Between October 2014 and May 2015 the Tennis Centre will be looking to train 100 new coaches to LTA Level 1 standard and up-skill 75 more to Level 2. These coaches will then coach and offer better opportunities to everyone who wants to play tennis, whatever age and standard.

Exeter Tennis Centre has 10 indoor courts and 2 outdoor courts, based at the University of Exeter Sports Park. The University of Exeter has been awarded The Times / The Sunday Times Good Universities Guide 2016 Sports University of the Year, following significant investment and development over the past 10 years. The University has also achieved a Global 100 ranking in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
