University of Exeter Netball Club and Exeter Netball Club partnership make it four from four
The University of Exeter Netball Club (EUNC) 1st team and Exeter Netball Club (ENC) Regional 1 side have ended their league season undefeated with the opportunity to progress through playoffs into Premier South and Premier 3 next year. Showing the strength and depth of the University Netball Performance Programme EUNC 2nd team have also won their BUCS league with the ENC Regional 2 side taking the Regional 2 title, both who are automatically promoted for next season.
Following a dominant season in Western 1A, finishing with a goal difference of 380 the EUNC 1st team have qualified for playoffs against Cardiff University and University of Surrey, with the winner earning a place in Premier South for the 2019-2020 season. The EUNC 2nd team have also earned another BUCS league win and gain automatic promotion into Western 1A, following an exciting winner takes all in their final league game of the season against University of Bath 3rd team which went down to the final whistle with Exeter maintaining their composure to take a 2 goal win. A number of University Performance Programme Netball athletes from EUNC 1st and 2nd team also represent ENC in the Netball South West Regional leagues. The Regional 2 side have gained promotion for the 2nd year in a row and move into the Regional 1 league next season. Regional 1 have also retained the league title from last year and once again head to Premier playoffs to fight for a place in Premier 3 (national league) next season.
Head of Netball at the University of Exeter and Exeter Netball Club Head Coach commented “I am delighted with the success of both our EUNC 1st and 2nd BUCS teams and Senior Regional 1 and 2 squads this season. Both Regional teams have secured back to back wins in the Netball South West Regional leagues with our Regional 2 Squad earning promotion for the second year running and our Regional 1 Squad earning an opportunity to attend England Netball Premier League Play Offs for the second year in a row. To win Western 1A with the University 1st team and have the opportunity to get back into Premier South has been an aim for the University side for the last few seasons. With the 2nd team having already secured their promotion to Western 1A, the first team will be looking to match this and get back to top flight BUCS netball. This success so far has been built on the determination and dedication of all the players within the squads and is testament to their hard work and perseverance throughout a very long season, my thanks should also go to the dedicated support from the Performance Programme, club committee and team managers who work tirelessly behind the scenes to support our players”.
Regional 1 and University of Exeter Netball 1st team vice-captain Maddie Heywood added “This season has been the most successful in my 3 years as part of EUNC and ENC. This is down to the hard work of the coaches and especially all the players. Every time we step onto court we have demanded a lot from each other, even if we were winning convincingly. I think this is the reason we have excelled this season and why we are confident we can make it into the Premier South in BUCS and Premier 3 for Regional!”
