"Achieving ISO14001 recognises our dedication and commitment to improving environmental standards across the University" - Karen Gallagher

Campus Services and Estate Services achieve environmental management certification

Campus Services and Estate Services has achieved recertification and transition to ISO14001:2015, the International Environmental Management System Standard, following four days of external auditing in April.

The environmental management system provides a framework which the services can use to monitor and reduce environmental impacts and encompasses all aspects of the organisation. This ranges from legal requirements through to grounds management, environmental communication, energy and carbon management, and construction and refurbishment. Achieving recertification highlights the robust policies and procedures in place which allows the service to demonstrate its improvements in environmental performance.

Feedback from the audit report highlighted that several areas of environmental management at the University could be highlighted as areas of best practice for other institutions and organisations. Particular praise was given to the transition towards an electric vehicles fleet and the integration of environmental considerations in day-to-day processes.

Karen Gallagher, Environment and Sustainability Adviser said: “Achieving ISO14001 recognises our dedication and commitment to improving environmental standards across the University. I am delighted that the auditor recognised several areas of our environmental management system to be demonstrative of best practice, and would like to thank all involved for their hard work in gaining this recertification.”
