Thames trek to make a difference in Moldova

Funds raised are supporting The Moldova Project, a charity run by third year English student Emma Watson to sponsor families and help out in orphanages.
 
The walk aims to raise enough to buy materials for an August building project, helping the families that the charity sponsor to repair their houses.  Activities for disadvantaged children will also be organised, and students will be spending some time in an orphanage in Chisinau, Moldova's capital city.
 
Emma Watson says: “We’ve been walking on the hottest days of the year, through flooded paths, and with an impressive collection of blisters among us – but what keeps us going is raising money to support our work this summer in Moldova.  
 
“The people we support include the many children living in orphanages, as well as people living in extreme poverty in Moldova's remote villages. We are trying to support these people by providing financial help, such as by arranging sponsors for deprived families and funding projects in the orphanages. We also provide more practical support by arranging for children to go to school and for damaged houses to be repaired.”
 
The Moldova Project was set up by Emma and her twin sister Lucy in 2008 with the aim of helping some of the most vulnerable people in Moldova, and became a registered Charitable Trust in 2011.
