Open letter in support of immigration lawyers

In the space of a single week in August 2023, more than 140 academic lawyers (and more than a dozen others) from around the world signed an open letter in support of immigration lawyers attacked by the government for representing asylum seekers and migrants by ensuring the government acts lawfully. The letter also expresses solidarity with Jacqueline McKenzie, upon whom the Conservative Party compiled a ‘dossier’ which was disclosed to the media, resulting in threats to the safety of herself and her family. The letter asks the government to condemn such ‘dossiers’, to stop attacking lawyers for acting professionally for their clients and to state that the vast majority of immigration lawyers act lawfully and professionally. The full text of the letter can be viewed via the below link.
