Lasha Jaiani in action for Georgia
EURFC alumni Lasha Jaiani to start for Georgia against England
EURFC are delighted to announce that recent graduate and Georgian international Lasha Jaiani will win his third cap for his country against England on the hallowed turf of Twickenham on Saturday, in both sides opening fixture in the inaugural Autumn Nations Cup.
Georgian Head Coach Levan Maisashvili has selected Jaiani to start in the second row for Georgia’s first encounter with England outside of the Rugby World Cup, having previously met in 2003 (6-84) and 2011 (10-41.)
Jaiani represented Georgia in the 2017 World Rugby Under 20 Championship, before winning his first full international cap for his country against Belgium in February’s Rugby Europe Championship, winning his second cap against Portugal in the same competition, before its postponement due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Second-row Jaiani was a key feature of EURFC’s BUCS Super Rugby sides throughout his time at university, making 31 appearances across both the 2018/19 and 2019/20 season for the 1st team, scoring two tries and expertly marshalling a highly successful forward pack.
Jaiani’s efforts throughout the season were rewarded at the end of the academic year, being presented with University Colours in April 2020, as well as being honoured as Athletic Union Sportsman of the Year for the 2019/20 season. His selection to start at Twickenham on Saturday is just reward for his continued efforts throughout his fledging career.
All at EURFC wish Lasha the best of luck against Eddie Jones’ men on Saturday and for the tournament ahead.
You can catch all the action live on Amazon Prime Video on Saturday, with kick-off at 3pm.
