Sports Performance Bursar, Alex Sheppy
Exeter Forever-Highlights from our graduating Sports Scholars and Sports Performance Bursars
With the academic year having come to a close and at a time where we would normally be looking forward to graduation, it’s been a great opportunity to reflect on some of the fantastic achievements from our graduating Sports Scholars and Sports Performance Bursars throughout their time at Exeter.
Alex Sheppy (Canoe)
Graduating with a BSc in Human Biosciences, this year Alex was selected as first reserve for the Senior Mens World Cup team in the USA. Unfortunately the event was cancelled due to COVID-19 but highlights the start of Alex’s progression from junior to senior ranks. Although remaining races for the year have also been cancelled, this does mean the British rankings are complete, with Alex ranked in the top 5 senior men for K1. He also finishes the season as the U23 national champion in MK1 and MC2.
Christina Shaw (Netball)
Graduating with a BSc in Biological Sciences, as University of Exeter Netball Club 1st team captain for the last 4 years, Christina has led the 1st team to promotion to BUCS Premier South and a 3rd place finish in the 2019-2020 season. She was also part of the Exeter Netball 1st team squad who achieved promotion to the England Netball Premier 3 league, finishing 3rd in their debut season. Having represented Wales U21, Wales Seniors and Team Bath U21 whilst at University, this academic year Christina represented Wales Seniors at Netball Europe in October 2019. Wales took home the silver medal after tying on points with England but losing out on goal difference by 2 goals. Lasha Jaiani (Men’s Rugby Union)
Graduating with an MRes in Health and Wellbeing, Lasha has been a permanent feature in the University of Exeter Men’s Rugby 1st team in the BUCS Super Rugby league during his time at University. This year he gained his 1st 2 senior international caps for the Georgian Senior side in the Rugby Europe Championship as he became the 7th full international to have represented the University of Exeter Men’s Rugby club. Nicole Bowen (Women’s Hockey)
Graduating with a BSc in Economics, Nicole has represented both the University of Exeter Women’s Hockey 1st team and ISCA 1st team whilst at University. This year she is also supported with a TASS (Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme) award and accesses core support services at the University of Exeter TASS Delivery Site (TDS). Internationally she has been part of the England U21 squad and more recently part of the GB Elite Development programme. As such she was named Sportswoman of the Year at the Athletic Union Awards in 2019 and nominated for the same award in 2020.
Best of luck to all our sporting graduates with their future career plans and do stay in touch! #ExeterForever #BleedGreen
