Colours & Awards 2022
The Athletic Union Colours and Awards ceremony is an event dating back to 1947 that recognises exceptional commitment and talent shown by students in sporting clubs each year.
It is a tremendous achievement for a student to receive recognition for their hard work over the year and in return, the awards are a chance for the university to show their appreciation.
It has been a fantastic year and wonderful to see so many students getting involved in sport, particularly post-pandemic, and the successes of the year could not have been possible without our students who contribute to the Exeter student experience and continue to prove why we are one of the best sporting institutions in the UK.
Our student leaders have contributed to many successes, foremostly, helping Exeter to sit 5th out of 160+ institutions in BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport), with notable achievments including winning the BUCS Super Rugby Championship. Men’s Football also finished top of their league and securing the Supplementary Cup + McDonald's Cup. Furthermore, a great number of teams finished top of their BUCS rankings and leagues, these include; trampoline, fencing, football, golf, rugby, lacrosse and tennis to name just a few.
Not only has there been huge competitive success, but this year has also seen our student workforce develop, sold out Intramural and Bleed Green leagues, a number of Pitch Up and Play sessions as well as a numerous clubs working alongside and delivering Para-sports sessions. Clubs are integrating within the community, in schools and centres across Exeter all with working hard to become more sustainable, showing that success isn't just comptition led.
For these reasons, we would like to say a huge thank you to our student committees and the recipients of this year’s Colours and Awards. Their incredible time and effort they have put in to run their clubs proves, again, why student sport plays such an integral part of the Exeter student experience.
