2022 UOE Staff Barbarians
UOE Staff Barbarians are back!
On Monday the 20th of June, the University of Exeter staff football team took on Atass in a friendly football game on the rubber crumb. Staff were allowed to take time off to compete in the closely contested match, with Atass just coming out on top!
It was a very warm evening at the sports park, so before the game had started, they knew it would be a hot one. With Atass kicking off the game, the first goal came early with the Atass striker being played through on goal and finishing neatly past the Barbarians keeper. The second goal for Atass came closely after the first with the Barbarians finding themselves 2-0 down within the first 15 minutes. The Barbarians then lost their left back Chris Mills too a nasty injury, we wish him the best and hope he recovers soon!
After a well needed drinks break, the Barbarians got back into the game passing the ball around well and then Stuart Fraser found Harry Lee in the box who finished from close range. Shortly after, a long ball was played over the top to the Barbarians winger Harry Lee who beat the left back with a cut back and nutmeg. The ball was then passed to Tom Prout who finished cleverly into the back of the net.
Atass got one back just before half time to take a 3-2 lead into the break. The lads were exhausted due to the heat (Or awful fitness levels).
The second half kicked off with the Barbarians shooting right to left. It took a while for the boys to get into the game until a great strike from Stuart Fraser, levelling the Barbarians up at 3-3. Atass then stepped up their game and started having shots at the Barbarians manager, Luke Dixon in goal. Dixon made two fantastic saves, tipping the ball round the post both times. Some heroic defending from the two centre halves Matt Ranger and Jamie Chudleigh, who saved the Barbarians from conceding more than they did.
With 5 minutes to go, the Barbarians conceded with a clever finish from Atass who went on to win the game 4-3. It was a good contest between two very even teams. A big congratulations to Atass for their win and thank you for coming along.
It was a great occasion that brought staff from all over the University together. The Barbarians will hopefully be having more regular games from now on, and hopefully get some wins under their belts.
